Tiger Talk

May is a bittersweet time for educators. We're busy with end of the year lessons and activities, and, like the students, we're guilty of counting the days until summer break. On the flip side, however, is the realization that the seniors (some kids we've had in our school for over 12 years). It's hard to say goodbye. Yes, we wish them well in their future endeavors, but we know we'll miss them. This year's class has scholars, athletes, artists, comedians, poets, musicians, and dancers, just to name a few of their attributes, and I look forward to hearing where life's journey takes them. I hope they realize what a privilege it's been to share this part of the trip.

High school continues a successful year.  Our regional track meet had Kofi Appiah running the 100 and 200 meter; Autumn Charvez with 100 & 200 meter, and shotput; Michal Morgan with shot put and discus, and Josh Waddell with shot put and discus.  Kofi Appiah qualified for the state track meet in Boise for both the 100 and 200 meter.  GO TIGERS!!

Mullan golfers had a great season on the course.  The following made regionals:  Kofi Appiah, Zeke Hess, Logan Petit, Steve Petit, Alex Trogden, Avah Blankenship, Autumn Charvez, Danika Niemi, and Rylee Niemi. Kofi and Autumn are double-sport spring athletes with track and golf! Unfortunately, none of our golfers made the cut for state, but we are proud of their accomplishments for the season.

The Mullan Drama Club “Dead Men Don’t Need a Dress Rehearsal” under the direction of Mrs. Debra Morris on April 26-27. Our students are born actors and put on a great performance!  Actors include Blake Knoll, Josh Houston, Zeke Hess, Steve Petit, Alyssa Bosson, Hayden Hess, Rylee Niemi, Logan Petit, Rianna Owens, and Avah Blankenship.  Stage support crew includes Lacie Morris, Caylee Crandall, MHS Shop Class, Sherry Leitz, and Marie Evans.

North Idaho Region 1 recognized the top ten percent of each high school’s junior class.  Mullan recipients of this award were Laeylah Parish and Talan Rupp Connors.  Each received a certificate and a medallion in recognition of their award at a ceremony held at NIC Boswell Hall on April 24.  Congratulations Laehlah and Talan!!

In addition, the North Idaho Student Teacher Academic Recognition (NISTAR) banquet was held at the Best Western Coeur d’Alene Inn on Monday, April 22.  NISTAR students are recognized based on both academics and activities, along with ranking in the top 10% of their class.  Josh Houston and Zeke Hess were MHS NISTAR students.  They chose the educator who made the most outstanding contribution to their scholastic development. Josh selected Mr. Clark, and Josh chose Mr. Spooner.  Congratulations Josh, Zeke, Mr. Clark and Mr. Spooner!

The senior class gave their presentations of the Senior Projects on May 1 & 3.  This assignment is geared towards research and reflection of their educational and career prospects after graduation.  The seniors did an outstanding job presenting each of their post graduate plans!!

Gabe Haas was our Mullan band student and joined the St. Regis band for their spring concert on Wednesday, May 8 in Mullan. The virtual band class with Mr. Derek Larson and St. Regis has been an innovative way to keep music in our junior high school.  Thank you to Derek and to Kayla Frazier for making this possible!
